Baptism is intended only for those who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and can give sufficient testimony to the basics of Christian beliefs. We baptize by immersion because it is not only the original significance of the word but also best symbolizes the reality to which baptism points—our death and resurrection in Christ.
If you have not been baptized following salvation, we ask that you take this step before becoming a Covenant Member of TJC. If you believe that baptism is a next step for you, please sign up through the form below for a baptism class so that we can walk through this decision with you.
We ask that all baptism candidates attend ONE session of baptism class before being baptized. We will talk through the basics of baptism such as what is baptism and who should be baptized and will conduct a short interview with candidates. We are so excited to celebrate this milestone in your spiritual journey!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT MY BAPTISM?
Your name will be called and you will enter the baptism pool. The pastor who is baptizing will talk to you and ask you if Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. After you answer, he will baptize you by briefly lowering you under the water, and then you can leave the water, dry off, and watch others as they make their public profession of faith. You will be handed a Bible to commemorate your day.
WHERE SHOULD I SIT?
We will have the first several rows in the (2) center sections of the auditorium reserved for you and your family. When our Business Administrator, Kendria Spicer, calls to confirm the service day and time you would like to be baptized, let her know an approximate number of guests that will be attending with you.
WHOM SHOULD I INVITE TO MY BAPTISM?
Baptism provides the opportunity to testify about God’s work in your life. Through the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection, one becomes a new person on the inside. We encourage everyone to invite their family and friends to this service.
WHERE DO I CHANGE MY CLOTHES AFTER I AM BAPTIZED?
You should exit the auditorium on the main entrance side (the side where the cafe is located). Upon exiting, you will be helped to the restrooms. There are shelves located inside both the men’s and women’s restrooms if you’d like to use both before and after your baptism.
Following baptism, we invite you to partner with us as a covenant member of The Journey Church. Our confession of beliefs and membership covenant can be found online at:
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AT MY BAPTISM?
Wear dark clothes that will not retain much water (jeans are not good), such as long swim trunks, dark shorts, or yoga pants. Dark colored t-shirts are best. Also, make sure to bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for wet clothing. It is best to arrive in the clothing you are going to be baptized in.
