Gospel Communities (GC) open up a place to experience a special connection that allows the whole family to “play, relax, try new things and to celebrate with,” according to Amber Wood. In the “Big Spring Ninjas” GC, shepherded by Matt Mckinney, people foster relationships that strengthen each other and allow the hands on joy of being in a family setting. It is here that members begin to establish “best friends” in a Godly atmosphere and that testimony shows what the meaning of TJC GC’s are about:
a family of believers on mission, sharing and showing the gospel to each other.
The Wood family looking back realized as well that Family Atmosphere is where compassion is poured out during the complexities of life. Remembering their first GC, they experienced what it meant to be family as they dealt with difficult pregnancies and as well the loss of two parents in the course of one month.
GCs provide ministry by looking through caring eyes for each other. There is nothing more lonely than having to deal with these life’s events that can be from raising children to the loss of loved ones.
Amber Wood said, “These are the people who do the hard stuff of life with us as well.”
Another special experience for Amber was expressed in these words; “I have definitely grown in my mom skills due in part to accountability…” Who would have thought of learning ‘mom skills’ in a GC? What better place to be when your own blood family is not in this area, than to be in a church family setting to help you parent your children and to grow in your marriage.
Another attendee of this GC is Erin Owens, who speaks with the same heart-felt love “(because) of the relationships I have formed as well as my children, I love having people in my life who can encourage me and who I can encourage and walk through life with.” She and her family experienced that family love through their GC during their time of moving in to a new house that required some significant manual labor.
Such testimonies show us that the Word of God has been applied in the “Big Ninja Spring” GC, where the Word of God and prayer is shared and lived out through their lives. They are living proof of the Apostle Paul’s encouragement to the Galatian believers with these words, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10).
A Gospel Community provides the environment to foster family love, and as followers of Christ we are called to be family.
Doing life together is a life sustaining experience as no one can thrive on an island alone. God always intended us to be His Family and create real, honest relationships with our church family. Gospel Communities are here for you and me to know one another, to love another, and to experience a family atmosphere.
Let it be said about TJC’s desire to live out what was said of Cornelius in the book of Acts 10:2, “A devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.” The Bible says we are of the household of God and GCs foster that truth.
May this be our prayer in our Gospel Communities, “Thank you Lord God for all your blessings to us and our GC family. For the strength you give us each day. And for all the people around us who make life more meaningful. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
If you’re not in Gospel Community, sign up for Group Connect! Starting in October, we will offer Group Connect that includes a dinner option, childcare, and teaching/ discussion by Pastor Erik Reed following along with the upcoming marriage series “Two Shall Become One”. This is the easiest route to Join a Gospel Community at TJC by connecting with other leaders and participants.
