An Easter Prayer

In Christ, Prayer by James Ulmer1 Comment

Father, we are so grateful that by your Grace through Christ, we are here at this moment of time, to praise you as men and women who have experienced a resurrection of our own spirits. We are no longer at war with you, nor are we separated by that gulf of sin. “..the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.” Gal 3:22

How can we recount all the marvelous and wondrous miracles you have wrought down through the ages? May we speak as David “Listen, my people, to my teaching, and pay attention to what I say.    I am going to use wise sayings and explain mysteries from the past, things we have heard and known, things that our ancestors told us.   We will not keep them from our children; we will tell the next generation about the Lord’s power and his great deeds and the wonderful things he has done.” David   Psalms 78: 1-4

Lord almighty God, we are standing in awe as all Christendom has done from that moment that stone was rolled away.  This day we call Easter, the day of resurrection for your son, Jesus Christ our Savior.

It is a day for us as your children to remember why there was a need for a resurrection Day. Our parents Adam and Eve departed from your will and caused the very Garden of Eden to be closed, it was a dark day for all of humanity to come. Our ancestors, our forefathers were left in the darkness of their own sins and could not by their own merit be set right with you. .

Father by your choice of mercy… your servants the Prophets foretold of a promised light to come. You never leave the people of this world without a hope of a restoration. Your plan from the foundation of this earth was heading for a day of reconciliation, to redeem those who would turn to You, from the damning reality of the state of their sins that separated us from you.

How can we rejoice this day without reminding ourselves of why our Lord, your son, had to die in our place? So great is the proclamation of your Word, it sets our hearts to the remembrance of “….. he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”  Is. 55:3

In the midst of this revelation, our Easter Celebration is a story of sin to death and the appointed entombment and resurrection. Help us Father to see that it was sin that placed our Lord on the Cross, it was our sin that brought His death….But it was you marvelous work of mercy and grace that opened that door that was closed in Eden and now opened spiritually to a new fellowship in the Father “…. God has shown us how much he loves us—it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us!  By his blood we are now put right with God; how much more, then, will we be saved by him from God’s anger!

We were God’s enemies, but he made us his friends through the death of his Son. Now that we are God’s friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ’s life! ”  Romans 5:8-10

Glory to you Father…what was darkness, the tomb that was the place of death has become empty and that which was sealed now is wide open to resurrection life with a welcome sign to those that believe God…”For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.”  John 3:16

Teach us by your Spirit to cry out in joy when we read “He is not here, But he has risen” Luke 24:6a…and to proclaim ourselves “The Lord really has risen” Luke 24:34a

Father, bring to our remembrance such words as these….  Listen now, my people, and come to me; come to me, and you will have life! I will make a lasting covenant with you and give you the blessings I promised to David.  Turn to the Lord and pray to him, now that he is near.   Let the wicked chose this day to leave their way of life and change their way of thinking.  Let them turn to the Lord, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.  So also will be the word that I speak— it will not fail to do what I plan for it; it will do everything I send it to do.  You will leave Babylon with joy; you will be led out of the city in peace.  The mountains and hills will burst into singing, and the trees will shout for joy.

Spirit of the Living God fill us with such joy as we Celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.  Let our voices shout He is Risen, Indeed He is Risen…….Amen
