Time to get your Christian Swagger going!!
” But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regards to its lusts.” Romans 13:14
As people of God, we are leaders in our families, jobs, and church, it is the clothing we step into that determines our swagger. Really!?!? You got to get your swagger on !
As a intransitive verb, swagger means “to conduct oneself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner; especially : to walk with an air of overbearing self-confidence.”
Well, lets step back for a moment. Every person has something that makes them stand out. That personality DNA, if you wish. What is yours? When a person changes clothes, it changes their swagger. Yep, every time. So what clothing are you putting on each day that determines your style of walk?
Paul said it best, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ”. Paul even spoke of the type of clothing..”Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:10-18
As children of God we do not wish to have “superciliously pompous” mannerisms in our Christian walk.. But, we need to have a confidence in our daily walk among others. Apostle Paul often is seen by readers as being braggadocio. Yet, he always boasted in the Cross of Christ…. Prophet Jeremiah said it well, “but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.”
Notice in Paul’s words in Ephesians that He ends that statement with pray in the Spirit. When we pray according to the Spirit and clothe ourselves in Christ. our swagger will be in line with God’s ways for us. The world has its swagger and it smells of death…..The Christian’s swagger smells of life. So get your Swagger on! But with this one caveat…”…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” has to be in the midst of your swagger, because it will protect you against the lust of self image…you are the made in the image of God, so go out with that Swagger, just make sure it is the right one!!
What say you, Brothers and Sisters?
